Topping it all off were feature tributes to Whitney and Donna, as the multi-artist efforts covered the late singers’ hits like Miss Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and the Summer classic “She Works Hard for the Money” before Pitbull drew this year’s rendition of VH1 Divas to a close with “Don’t Stop the Party.”

In this Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 photo, photographer Don McCullin poses in front of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts' sign promoting the new War/Photography exhibit in Houston. The exhibit displays the work of 280 photographers from 28 nations covering the Mexican-American war in 1846 to present-day. McCullin has four photos in the exhibit. (AP Photo/Pat Sullivan)It was a moment Nina Berman did not expect to capture when she entered an Illinois wedding studio in 2006. She knew Tyler Ziegel had been horribly injured, his face mutilated beyond recognition by a suicide bombing in the Iraq War. She knew he was marrying his pretty high school sweetheart, perfect in a white, voluminous dress.

Whitney Houston Honored with 2012 Billboard Millennium Award

Being recognized with an emotionally charged salute for her life achievements, the late Whitney Houston was selected as the recipient of the Billboard Millennium Award at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 20).

The “I Will Always Love You” singer – who tragically passed away on February 11th – was honored with a tribute led off by comedian Whoopi Goldberg, who said, “I adored Whitney Houston. What all performers want and need and should get is love, and many of us here loved Whitney, and even if you’re one of those who didn’t show the love to Whitney, now is your chance, because tonight, that’s what we’re doing: We’re going to be giving Whitney the greatest love of all.”

With John Legend performing “Greatest Love of All” followed by Jordin Sparks belting out “I Will Always Love You”, the stage efforts were followed by speeches – as Whitney’s sister-in-law, Pat Houston, said, “This is truly an honor. We thank you, Billboard; we thank you, Whoopi, Jordin; we love you, John. But tonight, the one person that should be accepting this award is the one person that Whitney loved most.”

Pat then passed the spotlight over to Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who kept her message short and sweet while saying, “I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all. Thank you so much for showing that much love, ’cause she deserved it. There will never be another one, ever. I thank you so much.”

MONTVILLE, CONNECTICUT — Hours after the world paid its final goodbye to Whitney Houston in New Jersey, ex-husband Bobby Brown paid his alongside bandmates New Edition before a sold-out crowd at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Brown’s remarks came just hours after the singer’s rapid departure from Houston’s funeral services at Newark, New Jersey’s New Hope Baptist church.

Brown sat out the night’s first three songs, then took the stage for “Hit Me Off.”  He acknowledged the fallen icon before “Jealous Girl.”

“I want to give blessings to my ex-wife, Whitney Houston. I love you,” Brown said, pointing towards the sky. “I want to give a lot of blessings to my kids, my fiancée, my brothers, and all of you.”

Brown and his New Edition band-mates powered through a set that lasted almost two hours, including hits from Brown’s 1988 solo smash, “My Prerogative,” to Bell Biv DeVoe’s 1990 hit, “Poison.”

“I lost three great people in my life, in the last year,” Brown told the audience of over 7,000 before the sextet wrapped with “Home Again.” “But, nothing makes me happier than to be right here, right now.”

Some New Edition fans, like Lisa Pollock of Bridgeport, Conn., were simply happy just to see Houston’s ex-husband in the building.

“[New Edition] just held it together. I can’t imagine what today was like for them,” Pollock said after the concert. “For them to come and do a show for all of us, definitely exceeded my expectations.”

Serita Outlow of Norwich, Conn. also attended the show unsure if Brown would make it.

“I think he did an excellent job considering what he must have been feeling,” she said. “I don’t know what he went through with his voice today but I think he still pulled it off.”

Bobby Brown Leaves Whitney Houston Funeral Early, Releases Statement

After days spent arguing with Whitney Houston’s family over whether or not he’d attend his ex-wife funeral, multiple sources confirm that Bobby Brown continued arguing with his former in-laws today.

And actually left the memorial after just 20 minutes as a result.

Bobby Brown at Whitney Houston Funeral

Both E! News and TMZ report that Brown brought an entourage of nine people in to the Newark church. It’s unclear exactly what happened from there, but the singer was spotted exiting the house of worship shortly after the service began.

“I am at Whitney’s funeral. I spoke with Bobby Brown trying to calm him down and not distract from the services. Today is about Whitney!” Al Sharpton Tweeted, while Access Hollywood‘s Shaun Robinson says a “seating arrangement” dispute was at play.

Brown also has a concert gig tonight in Connecticut with New Edition, but it’s believed this disagreement with Whitney’s family is the reason why he left the premises so quickly.

UPDATE: Brown has released the following statement:

“My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi-Kristina.

“In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how.”
