SNL Recap: Sofia Vergara Hosts, One Direction Performs

Bringing the laughs to the NBC sketch comedy show, Sofia Vergara took over the hosting duties on yesterday’s (April 7) episode of “Saturday Night Live”.

Kicking things off was a Cold Open sketch finding Mitt Romney on the campaign trail, after which Sofia brought her undeniable beauty onstage for her monologue in which she spoke to the Studio 8H audience about her Colombian heritage while saying , “This country welcomed me with open arms and pulled-down pants.”

During the course of the show, a favorite was a segment titled ‘Gilly in Sex Ed’ in which the “Modern Family” actress stepped into the role of a sex-ed teacher victimized by a spunky student named Gilly (Kristen Wiig), as well as a mock Pantene commercial in which Sofia was joined by Penelope Cruz (Kate McKinnon) in peddling the hair care product.

Other clips included a “We’re Just Friends” booty shorts skit featuring Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg, along with a closing piece dubbed “Hunger Games Reporter” in which Vergara plays an in-arena announcer at the “Hunger Games” who inadvertently outs her interview subjects and watches them perish.

Joining Sofia on last night’s “Saturday Night Live” was musical guest One Direction, as the British-Irish boy band consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson offered up performances of their songs “What Makes You Beautiful” and “One Thing”.
