Maybe a little late to the party but Redbox has teamed up with Verizon to bring consumers their own version of the online streaming services that are already provided by companies like Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon and iTunes. No other info regarding the name of the service, price or launch date has been provided but it appears Verizon is taking the lead on the venture.
Much like Netflix and Hulu+ the service will be provided with a monthly fee and still offer the DVD’s from Redbox kiosks as well as access to streaming titles from an online database. Negotiations are likely underway with studios to secure titles for the launch of the service.
From my perspective as someone that has used Netflix, Blockbuster Total Access and the occasional Redbox service the news doesn’t surprise me. I can’t say I’m all that tempted at this current time and place to partake in the service unless they have an impeccable selection of titles and a decent subscription price. They will need those two things just to be able to compete with Netflix and the other online streaming services.
