Grammy winning British singer Adele has been named in Forbes 2012 Celebrity 100 list, which means that she is now one of the most powerful and influential entertainment stars of the world.
She suffered a vocal cord haemorrhage in October last year and was forced to cancel several legs of her North American promo tour. But even that ailment wasn’t able to weaken her sophomore album 21′s outstanding market performance.
The soul-filled disc was by far the best-selling musical release of 2011, netting her an estimated fortune of $35 million in less than a year.
The busy Brit has been placed at no. 24 by Forbes on their prestigious list and the ranking is being considered pretty high for a first-timer like her.
This year’s Celebrity 100 list is topped by Adele’s fellow recording artist, Jennifer Lopez. The “On the Floor” crooner, who is also the star of the upcoming comedy movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” raised her popularity significantly in the last twelve months through her judging stint on “American Idol” and her much-publicized split from ex Marc Anthony.
J. Lo’s supremacy means that last year’s table-topper Lady GaGa slipped down a little bit and eventually finished in fifth position.
Second on the list is the veteran television host Oprah Winfrey.
Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber neither gained nor lost anything on his last year’s position and remains camped at third. He is followed by R&B diva Rihanna in fourth place.
Celebutante sister duo of Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian Odom are ranked seventh and 73rd on the list respectively, thanks to their collection of reality TV series and business ventures.
Meanwhile, “The X Factor” mastermind Simon Cowell dropped down nine places to finish in the 18th position this year.
Charlie Sheen, the star of the upcoming FX sitcom “Anger Management” dropped off the list completely, while Ashton Kutcher, the new star of ”Two and a Half Men”, who replaced Sheen on the CBS hit sitcom, made the list at #51.
